State of Play Returns After 5-Month Hiatus But Won’t Hype PlayStation 5 – CCN.com

After a hiatus of nearly five months, Sony is back with its all things PlayStation State of Play broadcast on Sept. 24 at 1:00 pm PT / 4:00 EST.

State of Play is Sony’s answer to Nintendo’s popular Nintendo Direct, where it showcases all the latest news and goodies heading to PlayStation. It usually consists of a smattering on trailers, announcements, and updates for upcoming titles.

Sony says;

We’re preparing a pretty hefty show, weighing in at around 20 minutes and sporting a fresh new look. And we’ll have some great news to share with you, including new game reveals, new content from PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, and a host of other updates. Should be fun!

Next-Gen News?

The press release accompanying the announcement goes to lengths to clarify that viewers shouldn’t expect any updates relating to Sony’s PlayStation 5 plans.

The Japanese gaming giant is notoriously guarded about its plans for a next-generation console. We imagine it sticking to its guns with the latest State of Play.

But, we can’t discount it throwing in a few hints here and there to whet our appetites for a fanfare unveiling rumored for February next year. The fact Sony is even mentioning the next-gen is a good sign things are moving forward internally.

PlayStation Exclusives

As for what we can expect, the usual suspects do spring to mind; Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima.

Death Stranding is more or less a guarantee with the Nov. 8 release day creeping ever closer. It’s the last chance for Sony to hammer home its latest exclusive.

When it comes to Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, predictions are a little murkier. Sony is hosting a media-only event on the very same day in Los Angeles. Whether some of the news with bleed over into the State of Play airing is up in the air.

Sony dropping Ghost of Tsushima news or a trailer seems unlikely. The exclusivity queue is already packed to the rafters with the above titles, but you never know. It’s been a while since we last saw Ghost of Tsushima back at E3 2018 and Sony will want to keep the title chugging away in the orbit of most gamers in anticipation of a proper publicity push next year.

You can catch the State of Play on the official PlayStation channels over Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube.
